The final showdown of 2011. Carnes was only 8 points out of the top spot to win the 2011 season Championship in the Charger division. Trouble found Rich early in the First race of the evening. The 30 lap postponed race form the week prior was not to be. Carnes started out loose, finally started to tame the car but lost his spot as he was going for a three wide inside move and got tangled with the 69 car. The officials seem to have thought it to be an aggressive move and gave Rich a stop and go penalty. That ended the first race of the evening in 13th place.
Now for the main event. Only 20 points out of the lead, Carnes started on the outside pole and proceed to take the lead on the first lap. After a couple of cautions and a mid race red flag, The race was under way again for the final 29 laps of this 50 lap main event. Carnes continued his lead til contact was made when the runner up tried to make a move on his inside, spinning himself out after contacting Carnes' left rear sending himself to the infield. The Official decision was to give Carnes, "while leading" yet another stop and go penalty. This ended his attempt for any possibility at the championship run! He finished 13th in the 50 lapper, and 5th place overal on the season.
What will next year bring for Carnes?

The Carnes ride gets to victory lane in his heat race on the 27th. The evening ends abruptly from a fire in the concession stand, which concludes the evening races. The final showdown will come this Saturday night, September 3rd. when there will be double features for the Charger division as Rich is only 8 points out of the lead. 30 laps in the first feature, followed by the season finale in a 50 lap event!
